3 Quick & Easy Steps to an At-Home Kids Manicure

Why do an At-Home Kids Manicure?

Doing an at-home manicure for your kids can be a fun activity that also helps them maintain healthy nails. You may be thinking “are kids too young for manicures?” It all depends on what you decide to do. We highly recommend performing the very basics and saving the more complicated manicures, like acrylics, for when they’re older.

Performing basic manicures are a great option for dealing with their overgrown, sticky cuticles and sensitive nail plates. Manicures also help with overall hygiene and may prevent your kids from biting their nails. After doing basic cuticle work, you can then decide if you want to add a layer of nail polish to finish off the perfect kids manicure.

How to do a Kids Manicure

If you’re looking for the best results, it's ok to use an electric nail file and gentle nail bits for your kids manicure. It can be intimidating at first, but by following these steps and using Erica's diamond bits, we guarantee that you’ll be giving your kid a safe and gorgeous manicure. Since they’re new to this kind of nail care, ensure that they’re comfortable throughout the entire service. Talk to them throughout the service and let them know what you're doing and why. Also remember to not rush the process and use gentle pressure.

Ready to get started on a kids manicure? Follow these steps:

  • Exfoliate the cuticle
  • Spray alcohol
  • Moisturize the nails

Step #1: Exfoliate the Cuticle

Exfoliating the cuticle is a very gentle process. Since some kids have more sensitive cuticles, you may want to avoid using a cuticle pusher. Instead, use the Safety Sciver in fine grit and run it at 7,000 RPM.

Trace over the shiny, thin cuticle with the Safety Sciver. Run the bit in the forward direction if you’re working from right to left, and in the reverse direction if you’re working from left to right.

Step #2: Spray Alcohol

Spray alcohol onto the nails to remove debris with a nylon brush. This cleans the cuticle area so debris doesn't stick into the nail polish if you decide to apply color.

Step #3: Moisturize the Nails

After you finish the manicure, apply cuticle oil. We highly recommend using a hydrating cuticle oil, like lunu-luxe. This cuticle oil is made with skin-loving ingredients, making it a great option for anyone. Plus the scent options are ah-mazing!

Massage the cuticle oil into the skin with the polisher bit. Since this bit is a very fine grit, it will not damage the skin and reduce hangnails from ocurring.

Conclusion

It’s important that kids experience manicures as a fun and enjoyable service because they’re going to be future clients. You don’t want to provide kids with a poor, painful service that scares them away from trying it again. Only use gentle pressure throughout the entire manicure and make it an overall fun experience.

We understand the concerns you may have of performing manicures on kids. Wait until you and the child are comfortable, and then follow these steps when you’re ready.
