Why is there an error message when I try to place an order?

If you’re having trouble submitting your order, try these steps: Double-check your card details. If the error message has no specific information, it’s possible the incorrect expiration date or CVV code was entered. If you’re using a saved payment method, we recommend re-entering the card details as if it were a new form of payment and submitting. Double check the shipping address for abbreviations, misspellings, and other typos that can result in errors. Still stuck? Contact our team at sales@ericasata.com.

Will I pay taxes on my order?

All merchandise is tax exempt, except in the state of Ohio, where merchandise and service will be taxed at 7%.

Product Questions

How long will my bits last?

The short answer to this question is it depends! Most Erica’s bits will last for between 150 - 300 services, however that number can depend on: the speed you’re running your e-file at when you use them, how you’re using the bits, what type of product or surface you’re using them on, and even how well your clients hydrate their nails between services.

How do I know what grit for my cuticle bits?

Medium is typically the most popular and commonly used grit for our cuticle bits, with the exception for flame-shaped bits. Flame-shaped bits are mostly used in fine grit. Coarse cuticle bits are used on clients with extremely calloused or thick skin and cuticles (mostly during pedicure services). For clients with sensitive skin, we recommend using fine grit.

How do I know what grit to get for my carbide bits?

For gel manicures or enhancements, such as structured gel, builder gel, hard gel, gel-x extensions, poly gel, or a double layer of standard gel base coat, we recommend a medium grit.

For acrylic and dip-powder enhacements, we recommend a coarse grit.

Reminder: carbide bits should only be used for removal when there is at minimum a double layer of gel base coat and should never touch the natural nail plate.

What is Onyfix?

Onyfix Nail Correction is a universal system that is a pain-free, non-surgical solution for nail deformities including involuted and ingrown nails. This non-tension-based system fixes the nail shape from the proximal end and returns the nail to its natural form through physiological growth. You can become an Onyfix professional here.

Why are Erica's bits better than the ones I can find on Amazon?

Erica’s diamond bits are made with 100% diamond to work faster and last longer. This means shorter appointment times and less wear and tear on your body. Often the bits you find on Amazon are made with other materials such as glass, crystal, or silica which just doesn’t last as long or work as well!  Watch our video where Erica shows you a head-to-head demonstration of our bits vs. the other guys!

What is a Dry Manicure or Dry Pedicure?

A dry manicure or dry pedicure is a service that is performed without soaking the hands or feet in water before or during the service.

If the nail plate absorbs water during a manicure it can make the nail plate expand which can cause lifting and shorten the longevity of the manicure. Additionally, when the skin around the nail plate is waterlogged, it can make it difficult to identify the difference between live and dead tissue on a client, making a nail tech more likely to cut live tissue which can cause issues such as hangnails after a service.

Gentle exfoliation techniques on dry skin using an e-file and Erica's ATA cuticle bits promote a longer lasting manicure that is better for the health of the natural nails.

What is e-filing?

E-filing, or electric filing, is the process of using a small electric powered hand-held device and bits specially designed for use on and around the nail to perform dry manicures and pedicures. With the right bits & proper technique, an e-file can be used in services that include all different types of product such as: gel manicures, acrylic manicures, hard gel manicures, structured gel manicures (sometimes called builder gel manicures), natural nail manicures, gel-x manicures, dip manicures, and even pedicures.

What is the difference between an E-File and a Drill or a Dremel?

The “nail drill” that nail techs use at their desk is called an electric file (or e-file). A dremel is designed to be used on metal and wood. It has high-vibration and a lot of torque (which means it has a lot of force). An e-file has a great balance between RPM (revolutions per minute), and also has torque that is appropriate for working on the nail plate.

What is a Diamond Bit?

Diamond e-file bits have tips that are coated in diamonds and work by scratching product or exfoliating dead skin cells. They are very durable and ideal for dry manicure cuticle work. Many companies may call their bits ‘diamond,’ however, are actually made with glass, crystal, or other synthetic materials. Erica’s 100% natural diamond bits allow for better manicuring and longer lasting use.

What is a Carbide Bit?

Carbide e-file bits are made out of carbide metal and are generally used to remove product from the nail. They are not to be used on natural nails but are ideal for removing and shaping nail enhancements since they scoop away gel or acrylic product more quickly. These tools should be used at a high RPM and are designed for 1 direction use. A carbide nail bit has teeth or flutes and grits ranging from fine to extra coarse. Our most popular carbide nail bit is Erica's Gel X for gel and acrylic removal.

I'm left handed. Why do I need specific carbide bits?

Carbide bits are designed with the flutes, or teeth angled in a specific direction to scoop or cut product as efficiently as possible. Because they are angled in a specific direction, this also means that they are designed to rotate in a specific direction (forward). When a left handed user operates their e-file in the correct direction for them (reverse), if they use a carbide bit designed to be operated in the forward direction it will not work as well and additionally may generate extra heat that can become extremely uncomfortable for clients. This is why Erica’s makes all of our top-selling carbide bits in both right- and left- handed options.
