Embracing the Future: Erica’s ATA Switches to Sustainable Packaging

If you’re a long time customer of Erica’s ATA, then you probably noticed something a little different about our packaging. That’s right, we switched our plastic packaging for carbide and diamond bits to a 100% recyclable alternative.

We LOVED our plastic packaging because of its aesthetics and convenience - So why did we make the switch?

The truth is, we want to help our planet. As nail techs, it can be difficult finding ways to be sustainable. We find ourselves making unsustainable choices, but that didn’t stop us from moving towards a greener future.

Additionally, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) discovered that plastic waste has quadrupled over the past 30 years and that global plastic waste generation has more than doubled between 2000 and 2019. At Erica’s ATA, we collectively agreed that it was time to bring awareness to this issue, in regards to the nail tech industry.

In 2023, we worked with JBM Packaging to create a new sustainable packaging option for our carbide and diamond bits. Since Fall 2023, all of our bits have been shipped in the new recyclable packaging.

About JBM Packaging

JBM Packaging is a manufacturer located in Lebanon, OH that focuses on producing eco-friendly paper packaging for a variety of products. As we searched for manufacturers to help us work towards a more sustainable future, we noticed that JBM shares similar values. One that stood out to us was a “passion for a better world.”

We knew that we had to team up with JBM Packaging because of their commitment towards helping customers achieve their goals. In addition, they continuously work to improve their manufacturing process. Here are a few examples of how they do so:

  • Gained B Corp certification last year
  • Are SFI certified
  • Are FSC certified

1. Gained B Corp certification last year

A B Corp certification represents JBM’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility and shows their determination to be transparent.

2. Are SFI certified

A Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification means that JBM works to ensure the conservation of biodiversity, protection of water quality, and sustainable harvest levels while supporting local communities and economies.

3. Are FSC certified

The Forest Stewardship Council certification proves that JBM’s products are sourced from responsibly managed forests, providing consumers with the assurance that their purchase supports sustainable forestry practices.

Why Did We Switch Our Packaging?

At Erica’s ATA, we believe that sustainability is not a trend, but reality. We’re working towards a more sustainable future by working with JBM Packaging, who offers 100% recyclable paper packaging with soy-based ink.

The nail industry heavily focuses on aesthetics and convenience over environmental impact, and we want to change that. Although this is a very small step towards sustainability in the industry, we’re hoping that our decisions will encourage other nail techs, salons, and businesses to take action.

Conclusion

Although it’s a small step towards being more eco-friendly, we’re dedicated to making a sustainable difference in the nail tech industry. Whether it’s performing dry manicures for water conservation or using reusable diamond hand files to reduce waste, we encourage you to #GoGreenWithEricasATATogether, we can create a greener and more environmentally-conscious nail industry.
